Rail industry aims to hire 5,000 veterans this year

The U.S. Department of Transportation announced this week an initiative in which the growing rail sector will hire more than 5,000 veterans this year. The railroad is dealing with an aging workforce and they are looking to veterans as potential employees because of their prior training in the military.

80,000 jobs in jeopardy in Florida

 

If Congress can’t agree on a deficit-reduction plan by the end of the year, Florida will lose nearly 80,000 jobs according to a report released on Tuesday.

The impact would be especially severe on small military subcontractors throughout Florida. Defense cutbacks already underway are expected to reduce spending nationwide by $487 billion over 10 years. But a far larger cutback could happen in January when the government must reduce spending by $1.2 trillion — including about $500 billion in defense — unless Congress approves a long-term budget to tame the national debt.

The Atlantic reports so many workers 55 and older are staying in the workforce that by year’s end their numbers will surpass those who are aged 25 to 34. And the trend is expected to continue for a while, possibly until 2020.

There are many reasons why older workers’ expected dominance in the labor market. It can be the difficulty many Generation Y’ers face finding full-time work or a job at all. While others are returning to school or taking a while to graduate hoping to ride out the tight job market.

FL, AL, MS all hoping to experience economic boom after Airbus Announcement.

 

The news couldn’t have come at a better time. Airbus, the European based company announced it will build a 600 million dollar assembly plant in the United States. They are building it in Mobile, AL. Right now it seems like it will mean huge things for the economy. 1000 high paying jobs, 4000 spin-off supplier jobs, and 3000 construction jobs.
